Common Questions

Answers to some of our most asked questions.

Yes, servicing and maintaining older systems is the best way to keep them soaring. If it is time to think about replacement, we will be honest and let vou know. We don't want your older system to become a money pit.

That was a clever question. In the 80s. If you are curious, though, it is a name given to a specific refrigerant originally by the DuPont corporation. If the underlying question underneath is why refrigerant costs so much, that can be primarily chalked up to governmental agencies, regulations, and corporate production. We would be happy to help you find the absolute best system available for you to help with your cooling, heating, and environmental concerns.

We recommend getting your HVAC system serviced with a maintenance twice a year, one for summer and one for winter. We also recommend that you replace your air filters at least every 3 months.

A mini-split A/C system, also known as a ductless mini-split, is a type of heating and cooling system that doesn't require ductwork. Instead of using a network of ducts to distribute air throughout a building, it uses a system of indoor and outdoor units connected by a conduit.

Here's a breakdown of the key components and how they work:

  • Outdoor Unit: This unit contains the compressor, condenser, and expansion valve. It's similar to the outdoor unit of a traditional central air conditioner.
  • Indoor Unit: This unit is mounted on a wall, ceiling, or floor inside the room or zone you want to cool or heat. It contains the evaporator coil and a fan to circulate air.
  • Conduit: This connects the indoor and outdoor units and houses the refrigerant lines, power cable, and condensate drain. It requires only a small hole in the wall for installation.

How it works:

  1. Refrigerant circulates between the indoor and outdoor units through the refrigerant lines in the conduit.
  2. In cooling mode, the indoor unit absorbs heat from the room and transfers it to the refrigerant.
  3. The refrigerant carries the heat to the outdoor unit, where it is released into the outside air.
  4. In heating mode (if the system is a heat pump), the process is reversed. The outdoor unit absorbs heat from the outside air (even in cold temperatures) and transfers it to the refrigerant.
  5. The refrigerant carries the heat to the indoor unit, where it is released into the room.

Key features and benefits of mini-split systems:

  • Zoned heating and cooling: Each indoor unit can be controlled independently, allowing you to set different temperatures in different rooms.
  • Energy efficiency: No ductwork means no energy loss through leaky ducts.
  • Easy installation: Relatively simple installation compared to ducted systems.
  • Quiet operation: Both indoor and outdoor units operate quietly.

Mini-split systems are a good option for additions, renovations, or spaces where ductwork is not feasible or desirable. They offer flexibility, energy efficiency, and personalized comfort.
